2014-15 NJB Registration is now open!

For better or worse (hopefully better!), the registration system PA NJB has used in the past is no longer available.  We will be using a new system, called SportsSignup.  Since this is a new system, you will need to create a new Account in the system.  Your userid/password from the old Demosphere system will NOT be active.

  • Step 1: Create a new account — the account information you enter is for you, the parent.
  • Step 2: (Optional) — add a 2nd parent to the account.
  • Step 3: Add a child to the account
  • Step 4: Register the child for a program (Rookie League, Divisional/Allnet, High School)
  • Repeat steps 3 and 4 for additional children.
  • Step 5: Checkout and pay.  This year, we will only be accepting credit card payments.  If you do not have a credit card, or need to apply for financial assistance, complete the registration through step 4, and then contact treasurer@panjb.com for further information.

Note: The process for registering for AllNet teams (5th – 8th grade) is different this year.  In the past, you registered and paid for AllNet before the tryouts, and then if your child did not make an AllNet team, the AllNet surcharge was refunded and your child was placed on a Divisional team.  This year, you will register your child in the Divisional/AllNet program ($395) first.  Then after tryouts, if your child is assigned to an AllNet team, you will be invited to return to the registration system to complete the AllNet supplemental fee.

Here is the link to complete the registrations:  http://paloaltonjb.sportssignup.com/site

A few other notes / requests

Volunteers!
PA NJB is a 100% volunteer-run organization.  Each year we need assistance from a large number of families to make the NJB season a success.

  • We need volunteers to assist with the AllNet Tryouts (Oct 4-5) and Divisional Assessments (Oct 18-19) — 2 hour slots typically.
  • We need parent coaches and assistant coaches for our divisional teams — some basketball knowledge is needed, but more important is the desire to learn and then teach.  Coaching can be done by a High School student as long as a parent / adult is also present.
  • For our Rookie League (aka Kinder – 2nd clinic), we need parent volunteers to assist the Clinic Coach with drills.
  • We need team level volunteers to assist with uniform distribution and collection
  • And vitally, we really need more volunteers at the Board level.  While some of these positions are more time-consuming than others, none require basketball knowledge.  Open roles include, Uniform Manager(s), Assistant Treasurer, Vice President, Divisional Player Agent.  The current board members will not be on the board forever!  We need new volunteers in place to replace board members whose children no longer play.

Without volunteers at all levels, Palo Alto NJB could not. and will not, exist!

Resource Constraints
Each year, PA NJB registration is limited based on two primary constraints — parents volunteering to be coaches, and gym space.  This year will be especially difficult in regards to gym space with the Paly HS gyms closing in December.  We are working to obtain as much gym time as possible, but we may need to be creative with team practices.  The other constraint, parent coaches, is completely within your hands — the more volunteers we have, the more teams we can support!

Thanks
The Palo Alto NJB Board

PA NJB brings home 2 National Championships!

Palo Alto NJB had a very successful NJB 2013-14 season!  Over 500 boys and girls participated in our K-12 programs.  Scott Peters led yet another wonderful K-2 clinic for our youngest ballers with over 70 participants.  At the divisional level, we had 35 teams of 3rd – 8th boys and girls participate in the Silicon Valley NJB league.  We also had two High School NJB teams and 7 All-Net teams represent Palo Alto.

The season ended with Palo Alto bringing home two National Championships.  The 7th grade boys All-Net team won the Silicon Valley All-Net tourney, and then travelled to Orange County and successfully defended their National Championship.  Next year as 8th graders, the boys will be going for a three-peat!

PA 7th AN - National Champs

Our Division 1 boys (7th / 8th grade) All-Stars also travelled to Orange County and went 4-0 to win an NJB National Championship.  Congratulations to coach Ahmet and his boys!

Palo Alto Rookie League – Clinics for our K thru 2nd Graders

Now in its ninth year, the K thru 2nd grade co-ed clinic is a specially age-tailored program intended to teach individual skills, team concepts and, most importantly, be really fun. Click here to register!

Palo Alto 13-14 K-2 Clinic Schedule (printable schedule)

Format:

  • Practice / Skills 40min
  • Continuous 2 on 1 games, 10 min
  • 5 on 5 games, 40 min
  • Games played on both Saturdays (9 – 10:30am) and Sundays (10 – 11:30am) starting Dec 7th

We appreciate that kids prefer to play with their friends, however for competitive balance, we cannot guarantee that friends will be on the same team. It is our hope that the league fosters new friendships and furthers the development of the youth in the community.

Palo Alto NJB uniforms will be distributed to the players at the first clinic. The players will keep these during the season, but will return them to NJB at the end of the program in Feb. If you have an old uniform from a previous year, please return it to the first clinic.

All-Net Tryouts and Divisional Skills Assessment Dates

Thanks to everyone who has registered for Palo Alto NJB.  We have waitlists for the Boys Divisions.  For D1 and D3, we hope to clear many of the waitlisted kids on a team.  The D2B (5th /6th grade) division has a very long waitlist so any new registrations are very unlikely to be cleared.  The primary constraint is finding parent coaches.  If you volunteer to coach, you’re child will automatically move off the waitlist — please let the player agents listed below know if you’d like to volunteer.

Division Evaluations will occur on Sunday, Oct 20 at Palo Alto High School

Note: These are not tryouts, but skills assessments in order to develop balanced teams.  Waitlisted players should attend a skills assessment in case placement on a team is made.

For boys divisional players, there will be two sessions.  Please plan on attending just one of these.  Arrive 25-30 minutes early for check-in.   If your child is unable to attend the skills assessment, please contact the player agent for that division.  If your child doesn’t attend a session, and no contact is made with the player agent ahead of time, you will lose you spot in the registration line.  If you have registered but have not paid yet, please do so now, or risk losing your spot in the registration line.

Palo Alto 6th boys win All-Net National Title

2013 6th Grade All Net National Champions

The Palo Alto NJB 6th grade boys’ All-Net basketball team capped off a very successful season by winning the championship game at the 2013 National All-Net Tournament in Orange County, California this past weekend.

With a highly competitive field comprised of the top 28 regional 6th grade boys’ NJB All-Net teams, Palo Alto was placed in the top level grouping of six teams and swept its division with a 4–0 record.

Palo Alto won by an average of 17 points per game and captured the national title by defeating the top-ranked 6th grade boys’ All-Net teams in the country.

In the championship game late Sunday afternoon, Palo Alto faced a rematch against its second- round and strongest opponent this season, the Walnut Thunder Elite. Leading 19-17 at the half, the Palo Alto boys were able to steadily increase their lead while relying on their consistently strong, unselfish offense and tough defense to win the national title with a 45-33 victory.

“This is truly a special team that is exciting to watch every time they are on the court,” said Ken Morgan, Palo Alto’s head coach. “Each week, I thought that they had reached their potential then the next week, they would set the bar even higher. This continued the entire season -– right through the national championship weekend.

“These boys have worked hard all season to not only bring out the best in each other, but ultimately, to get on the court at the whistle and leave the court at the buzzer having played the best game as a team as possible.”

The Palo Alto boys opened pool play with a 57-28 win over Bakersfield. In a tough second-round game against the Walnut Thunder Elite, Palo Alto found itself trailing by six at the beginning of the fourth before rallying for a 49-48 overtime victory by scoring in the final three seconds.

Palo Alto next faced the RSM PD Titans, one of the top-ranked teams in Southern California, in the national semifinals. Palo Alto dominated the boards and came away with a commanding 61–34 triumph.

The Palo Alto NJB 6th grade All-Net boys finished their season 17-1. Over the course of the season, Palo Alto averaged 56.5 points per game while giving up only 32 points on average. Along the way to the National Championships, Palo Alto had an impressive 11–1 regular season.

Team members included Tyler Foug, Oscar Pedraza, Jason Shorin, Wes Walters, Kyle McGraw, Jackson Chryst, Matthew Patterson, Evan Dray, and Marvin Zou. Michael Evien was the assistant coach.
