Status of 2020-21 Season
COVID-19 UPDATEUpdatedWednesday October 21, 2020 byPANJB Board.
We have been closely monitoring the current public health crisis throughout the summer and early fall, with an eye on offering something resembling our normal basketball leagues this winter. Unfortunately, while our community has been vigilant in fighting the virus, and Santa Clara County has recently started to loosen some restrictions on kids playing outdoors together—only drills allowed—it is still not safe to play actual indoor basketball. Even if indoor basketball were to be allowed, it is not clear when organizations like ours will be able to rent courts from Palo Alto schools or community centers.
Still, we are hopeful that restrictions will be loosened some time in the first quarter of next year. And our kids need the social and physical benefits of team sports now more than ever. So, we are planning to run a limited number of teams in a "hybrid" 3rd-8th grade winter league. Hybrid teams will have online workouts/practices during the week, weekend practices at parks or other outdoor courts (weather permitting), and indoor games as soon as they are permitted by the County. We are keeping the number of teams small because of the inevitable shortage once gym space is available to rent.
We will also be offering a version of our "Rookie League" K-2 clinics online only for the time being.
Please stay tuned for details about these leagues and how to sign up. Note that we will be offering all future leagues under the 4CITY Palo Alto name. You will need to create an account at www.4city.us before you can sign up.
