Updated Thursday October 3, 2019 by Rookie League Commissioner.

Welcome to a new season of the PANJB K-2 "Rookie" League! Please see below for 2019-20 season details:

This season our Rookie League will consist of five weeks of clinics plus scrimmages followed by five weeks of clinics plus a 5-game mini-league. For the first five weeks, sessions will include 45 minutes of group skills development and 45 minutes of rotating scrimmages in one 90 minute format. For the last five weeks of the season, we will hold 60-minute clinics plus players can participate in a separate thirty minute game at a different time than the clinic. Games will be conducted in upper, lower, and girls-only divisions. Participation in the mini-league games is optional, but strongly encouraged (especially for our 1st and 2nd graders). It's a ton of fun! Game format will be more competitive than traditional Y-leagues, and will prepare players for our D3 divisional play which starts in third grade.

Brandynn Williams, the Gunn Varsity Boys Coach, will once again be our Rookie League Head Coach.  He will be assisted by coaches from local high school teams.

This year, students will have the option to attend clinics on either Saturdays or Sundays, with all games on Sundays. Our five weeks of 90-minute clinics will be held on the weekends of 11/16-17, 11/23-24, 12/7-8, 12/14-15 and 12/21-22. The 60-minute clinics plus mini-league games will be held on the weekends of 1/11-12, 1/18-19, 1/25-26, 2/1-2 and 2/8-9.

For the first five weeks there will be three sessions to choose from: Saturdays at 3:00 pm, Saturdays at 4:30 pm, and Sundays at 1 pm. We may open a fourth clinic time based on demand. For the second five weeks (starting 1/11) the Saturday sessions will be at 3:00 and 4:00 and the Sunday sessions will be at 1 pm. Players can attend any clinic time on a given weekend, and may be allowed to attend multiple sessions when room permits.
Starting 1/12, games will be held Sunday afternoons between 2:00 and 5:30 pm. Players may have to sign up in advance to reserve a game slot at the appropriate level.

All clinics and games will be held at either Fletcher Middle School or Gunn High School. Exact locations for each time slot are still being determined. Both schools are located very near each other on Arastradero Road in south Palo Alto.

Fees for this year’s K-2 Rookie League are $325. This includes a reversible numbered “Rookie” jersey for your child to keep. Please note we are committed to providing scholarships for every family who needs assistance.  Email to apply for full or partial financial assistance (all requests will be kept confidential).

While the name of our clinic to “K-2” to avoid confusion, we also welcome third graders who are new to basketball and not ready to play divisional this year.  The Rookie League will prepare them to play in our D3 (3rd-4th grade combined) league as a 4th grader.
