K-2 Rookie League registration now open!
Please don't delay, it's filling up fastUpdated Friday September 21, 2018 by PANJB Rookie League Commisioner.
Welcome to a new season of the PANJB K-2 "Rookie" League! Please see below for details.
NEW MINI-LEAGUE FORMAT
We have an exciting upgrade to our K-2 program this season, with the addition of a 5-game mini-league on top of our clinics. For the first five weeks, sessions will be the same format as last year: 45 minutes of group skills development and 45 minutes of rotating scrimmages. But for the last five weeks of the season, PANJB has agreed to run two levels of K-2 league play (upper and lower divisions) in partnership with the Palo Alto Family YMCA. Participation in the league games is optional, but encouraged for our 1st and 2nd graders. Game format will be more competitive than traditional Y-leagues, and will prepare our players for D3 divisional play.
Brandynn Williams, the Gunn Varsity Boys Coach, will once again be our Rookie League Head Coach. He will be assisted by coaches from local high school teams. This year we will also be asking for parent volunteers to help coach the league teams (see above) in partnership with high school players. If you would like to be a parent assistant, or a volunteer coordinator, please email our K-2 Commissioner at firstname.lastname@example.org.
DATES & LOCATIONS
Clinics will be held at Fletcher (formerly Terman) Middle School on 12/2, 12/9, 12/16, 1/12, 1/19, 1/26, 2/2, 2/9, 2/23 and 3/2. The 5 league games will be held on 1/26, 2/2, 2/9, 2/23 and 3/2 in addition to the morning clinics between 2 and 6 pm at the Palo Alto Family YMCA on Ross Road. There will also be an end-of-season celebration on March 9th at the YMCA.
For the first three clinics (12/2, 12/9, 12/16) there will be two sessions to choose from: 9 am and 10:30 am. Starting on 1/12, there will be four sessions to choose from: 9 am and 10:30 am (at Fletcher) and “pre-game” clinics at noon and 1 pm (at Palo Alto YMCA). Players can attend any clinic time on a given weekend, and can even attend multiple sessions when room permits.
Fees for this year’s K-2 Rookie League are $375. This includes a reversible numbered “Rookie” jersey for your child to keep. Please note we are committed to providing scholarships for every family who needs assistance. Email email@example.com to apply for full or partial financial assistance (all requests will be kept confidential).
THIRD GRADERS WELCOME
While we have changed the name of our clinic to “K-2” we are still accepting third graders who are new to basketball and not ready to play divisional this year. The Rookie League will prepare them to play in our D3 (3rd-4th grade combined) league as a 4th grader.
